PSHE & RSE

Through our PSHE curriculum, at Brookfield Primary Academy, we aspire to instil core values such as respect, tolerance, empathy, and responsibility, promoting a sense of citizenship and community within our young learners.  We want every pupil to have high aspirations, a belief in themselves and  a realisation that anything is possible if they put their mind to it. When our pupils leave Brookfield Primary Academy, they do so with the knowledge, understanding, skills and emotions to be able to play an active, positive and successful role in today’s society. We want to provide them with the tools to navigate challenges, express themselves, and build resilience and overall ensure they are able to develop into the most social, emotional, moral, spiritual and resilient young people they can be, allowing them to thrive in an ever changing world.

At Brookfield Primary Academy we use the Jigsaw  whole school approach to support teachers to champion our pupils and ensure they receive a high quality Personal, Social and Health Education which provides them with the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy, independent lives and to become informed, active and responsible citizens.  Brookfield Academy provides a comprehensive PSHE Programme which covers all the requirements of the government guidance and outcomes, and more. It brings together Personal, Social, Health Education, emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development in a comprehensive scheme of learning. The pupils cover six topics throughout the year; Being Me in my World, Celebrating Differences, Dreams and Goals, Healthy Me, Relationships, Changing Me.

RSE

Relationships and Sex education (RSE) is an integral part of our PSHE curriculum. Through our Relationships unit, We teach the pupils the foundations of healthy relationships, emphasising respect, consent, communication, and empathy. As an outcome our pupils learn how to form positive connections with their peers, families, and communities.

In relation to British Values, through the vehicle of Jigsaw,  all children have the right to pass if they do not want to share their views and/or opinions. This also links to confidentiality, which is recapped at the beginning of every session to ensure all children feel safe and comfortable. Our lessons are based on respect and understanding. At Brookfield we also have numerous Pupil Voice groups that invite the children to share ideas, and express opinions and have a voice as part of our school communities, understanding of what it means to fit in as global citizens.

Through our PSHE curriculum we aim to provide all pupils with Relationship and Sex Education appropriate to their age.

Jigsaw fulfils the requirements of the 2020 Statutory Relationship and Health Education which enables all pupils to build good, safe and healthy relationships now and in their future lives. See the RSE Policy Here and a Guide for Parents Here.
